Hello Maria, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Indian Made Oriental Rug. The piece dates back to the period between 1990-2010. The piece is made in the style of Turkish Oushak Rugs with interpretations of Indian origin. Colour palette of the piece is quite modern, probably aimed to be a good fit of a modern interior. We do not exactly know why the origin of the wool was promoted as New Zeeland specifically but I believe it is an attempt of advertisement to enhance the prestige of the rug. The piece is all florally decorated without a central medallion or a very small one. The central are was decorated by duplicated symmetrical floral patterns that Turkish Oushaks have adaptes from Classical Persian Floral Weavings. The central are was knotted on a Beige colour while the borders were decorated on black. The knot quality of the piece appears to be average to high. Therefore the motifs are rendered clearly. The piece was knotted with shiny, treated wool on cotton. The piece is in good condition without visible problems. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: Unknown. Condition: The piece is in good condition without visible problems. Provenance: Gallery Heavily decorated by traditional Oushak patterns. 1800-2500$.
