Hi Lyn, Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. The bowl is not a sugar bowl (that would have a molded rim and lid or cover) but rather what was called a "waste" bowl, for the loose tea to be deposited into after the pot had steeped. This *should* have a sugar bowl and may also have had a larger circular platter or cake plate. The records for the various Noritake patterns - if they were kept in Japan prior to WWII - were lost so there's no way to know if this particular pattern had a name but gilt-washed (or silver-gilt-washed) Noritake sets are unusual and can bring higher prices (if this were a white porcelain set with floral decoration, it would have a value closer to AUD $200-400. Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is: A vintage 15-piece Noritake gilt-washed porcelain tea or dessert service for six made in Japan, bearing the Noritake "Komaru" mark in use from 1947-1949, comprising: 1 tea pot 1 cream pitcher 1 waste bowl 6 cups 6 saucers CONDITION: not examined in person but appears to be in good condition; value assumes no chips, cracks, breaks or repairs PROVENANCE: inherited AUD $500-800 for the set* *represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
