Murano ruby gilded rococo panel’s glass vase with enameled glass applied flowers, 1880's
11 October 2022
Description

Each of the four panels have different colored lilac petals and there are facetted glass stones inset as well.

Dimensions

29" tall and 6 1/2" wide

Provenance

My Mother-in-law lived for more than 60 years with her husband in a farm house in Connecticut which is where we found this. She passed away at the age of 93 in 2002. She was born and raised around the Glen Cove area of Long Island. He father was a caretaker for a wealthy family’s estate, which is where I think this piece might have come from. It does support the age of it.

I have not found any markings on the base or underneath. Is there any other place a mark could be found?

Delia Oct 12, 11:00 UTC

The underside (or edge of the rims, either top and bottom) are typically where faint signatures are.
The quality of this vase - and it's size! - are exceptional...do you mind if I show photos of this to a colleague who is an expert in Murano to see if they recognize the artist? It might take an little extra time, so I need your OK for that, and also to consult outside Mearto?
Let me know if that's OK...

Yes, please share this info. I am in no rush as it has been in storage for years. I will closely inspect in later today for marks and let you know what I find. Thank-you!

I have carefully looked over this piece and cannot find any markings. With full and fair disclosure I did not realize this piece was "very poorly repaired" at some point in time at the base. Perhaps that was where the mark or signature was. I have attached additional pictures. Very disheartening.

It has been awhile, any thoughts on the value of this piece?

Delia Oct 23, 15:38 UTC

Good morning, Diane,
My expert friend has come back without an attribution to a studio and we both agree that the damage is significant enough to negatively impact the value considerably. It's now about 1/10th the value to what it would have been if it was in original condition, and I'm sorry to say it will have very little market appeal.
Thank you for your patience!
Delia
