Hello Scott, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, technique and the colours, I concluded that this is a Hand Made Murano Glass Rooster Figurine, made in Italy. From the period 1980-2010. Murano is an ancient glass art center with roots going back to the glass artists of Ancient Rome. Murano island and the island's ecole has produced countless pieces from small figurines to monumental chandeliers. The art of glass in Murano possibly reached it's lavish stage and pinnacle in late 18th and early 19th century. Of course pieces like yours were designed and made as touristic gifts or souvenirs. The sizes and the quality gives us an idea on the purpose and the period. The label underneath your piece was heavily used during 1990's. These kind of pieces were very popular from 1980's onward, Venetian artists shaped the glass as small sized animals, roosters were one of the most heavily used figures. The special technique used in this piece is called "Murrine Technique", the colourful decoration seen inside your piece is made by this technique. Artist cuts the glass sticks of different colours as circles and places them inside the figurines body, this creates a very detailed and unique pattern and gives the impression that colours are trapped inside. This is a hard technique to apply but the precision is an important feature to evaluate Murrine work. Yours can be considered average. Very decorative. Entirely hand made glass. Dimensions: 8 1/2 Inches by 6 1/2 Inches Condition: In very good condition without any visible faults. Provenance: Unknown Made in Italy, by using Murrine technique. 150-200$.
