Hello Carolyn, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Opaline Glass Basket placed on a Silver Plated base, probably made between 1882-1910. Your piece is definetely an antique in every aspect. Toronto Silver Plating Company was established and started it's production in 1882 and continued till 1914, the company bought by some other bussiness afterwards. The mark "Quadruple Plate" was used mostly in late 19th century and less in early 19th century. This probably indicates that your piece might be dating to a late 19th century 1882 onwards. Quadruple Plate means an item or object that has 0.0012 inches of silver coating on them. The company produced the metal part but the glass part was probably purchased from another company in Canada, likely to be from Ontario region. There were some known glass producers which supplied glass pieces to the Toronto SP company in the Ontario Region. These pieces were very famous as wedding gifts mostly. They were of course considerably prestigious at the time. The opaline glass center piece is decorated with floral Victorian patterns. The pinkish deep colour is characteristic to the period. Very collectable and has an artistic value for sure. Silver Plated Base and handle alongside a hand made and hand painted Opaline Glass basket. Dimensions: Unknown Condition: Seems to be in very good condition without any visible fault. Provenance: Inherited from customer's mother-in-law who was the original owner. Heavily decorated by floral Victorian patterns. 350-500$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
