Mother and child sculpture

This is a very old piece. It was my grandmother’s in the 1920s in London, England and it was old then. My mother moved to the US in the 1950s and it was handed down to me. It’s marble; I think but I’m not sure. Roughly 12 inches long, 9 in width, it has become separated from its base, but looks easy for an expert to connect. It has very fine carvings in it. It weighs about 10-15 lbs.

Hello Kimberly, Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. The item presented appears to be an alabaster sculpture by Italian artist Emilio P. Fiaschi (1858 - 1941). The object depicts a mother and child in a loving embrace. Other examples of the sculpture include s signature to the verso of the mother, often reading "P.E. Fiaschi." The bust does appear to present some condition concerns, notably the separation from the pedestal. The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of this work and other comparable alabaster busts by Emilio P. Fiaschi, dating to the early 20th century. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
