Hi Jonathan, Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. This rug looks very much like those that Alexander Calder made, though I don't find this pattern among a search of his rug archives and if it were by him, there would be a signature and edition number. I think the "rubbery" texture you describe is the aging of the paint as it doesn't look as though this has been backed (if I'm incorrect please advise). Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is: A vintage Calder style throw rug Probably American, third quarter 20th century Of rectangular shape, the yellow and blue border enclosing a red ground decorated with large-scale stylized floral blossoms in orange, yellow and blue. 44 inches by 72 inches (3'8" by 72") CONDITION: appears to be in good condition with some aging to textures. PROVENANCE: inherited $400-600* *represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary. Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
