Hello Stanley, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, metal and the forging quality, I concluded that this is a Medieval Crusader Style Knight Sword. The piece is likely a reproduction and dates back to the period from 1970-1990. The pieces in the medieval times were hardly made very carefully up to the aesthetics standarts for low ranking officials or low ranked nobility. Usually we see ornamentation on pieces that belonged to the high ranked nobility or local rulers, kings. This piece on the other hand appears to be forged very perfectly but without any ornamentation, this arose a contradiction. With the help of the very modern font mark of "A" on the piece we can merge the data and conclude that this was a contemporary reproduction. The piece also follows the most famous example design of the medieval period, hence the chance of it being a production is higher. The piece shows some marks of rust and oxidation. It is not very clear in the images but the grip appears to be made of wood. The pomel appears to be forged as a perfect circle without any ornamentation. Rain guard is classical to this model. The piece is in fair condition in need of restoration to certain areas. Medieval Type Sword. Dimensions: 30 1/2 Inches of blade, crosshairs are 7 7/8 Inches wide curved on the ends, handle is 5 1/4 Inches, panel is 2 1/2 Inches.
