What does this mean?

Hi Steve,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Searching for this crown/shield/wreath mark led me to this website, which didn't completely identify the maker but suggests whoever was making it made lots of other forms; someone on this had these same vessels but with a different label (https://www.figurines-sculpture.com/italian-ceramic-clown-figurine-pottery-mark-with-shield-wreath-and-crown-in-a-circle.html)
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A pair of ceramic cherub-applied vessels
Possibly made in Italy, Used to contain Ambassador Scotch Whisky, late 19th Century
Each vessel with applied putti and floral elements, each with impressed shield, wreath and crown mark below, one with lid reading "Ambassador Scotch Whisky"
each 10 inches high
CONDITION: appear to be in good condition
$125-175 for the pair*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.

Thanks for your appraisal but mostly you just repeated what I previously stated . I still do not know what these vessels were used for .
You stated "Possibly made in Italy, Used to contain Ambassador Scotch Whisky, late 19th Century " but I believe Ambasador Scotch was founded in 1953 by Charles Ferguson, Ralph Lenz, and Johnny Smither, the company
Please explain

Apologies; I did not research the age of the company.
That said, the quality and style of these vessels suggests they were made much earlier than the 1950s. The labels look much newer than the vessels. In this situation, I posit that the vessels were later filled with whisky; this is not common but not unheard of either.

What Labels ?
I am still not to sure of the age of the bottles or what does the symbol on the bottom represent
Thanks

Delia Oct 31, 17:56 UTC

The label on the top of the bottom. Sorry, that should have been singular, not plural.
The digital link I included in my original description goes into great detail about the crown/shield and wreath mark...in short, many people have researched it but no-one seems to know more about it and I can find nothing about it in any of my books on porcelain marks.

Steve richards Oct 31, 20:26 UTC

So what am I actually paying for ?

Steve richards Oct 31, 20:37 UTC

Your statement "The label on the top of the bottom" makes to me no sense
I googled "on top of the bottom" and found NO RESPONSE.
A label is defined as "a small piece of paper, fabric, plastic, or similar material attached to an object and giving information about it.". There is no label on the Item

Apologies again - bottom was meant to be BOTTLE.
From the photos, it looks like there is a paper cover (that is what I was referring to as a label) over the cork that is marked 'Ambassador Scotch Whisky'...if it isn't paper, what is it?
I am sorry I/we can't provide more detail but my/our abilities extend only to what is known (online or in published form) about any particular object. As you can tell from the website link I provided, many people have tried to identify the maker through the mark but have come up cold. Several other people concur that these vessels / bottles are older than mid 20th Century.
