Mary Mitchael Oriental Rug

I purchased this oriental rug in the mid 80's in south Florida. It is center Medalion, 9ft 8in by 14ft 4in. For the last 15 years is was properly stored with no exposure to any wear. It has always been in a smoke free house. It has some fading from sun, no tears or rips/damage at all.

Hello Mary, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Style Rug possibly made outside of Iran. Dating between 1983-1987. Pieces with certain material, quality and composition are usually knotted in Persian style in India or Pakistan. These pieces are referred as Indo-Tabriz or Paki-Tabriz rugs. When I pay attention to the numbers written on the back of the piece, I can clearly spot that they were in Latin Numerals instead of Persian. This is an indication that the piece was knotted elsewhere but in Persian style. Also some colours, especially tones of yellow and orange are a signes of possible Indian origin. Your piece has a very heavily decorated central medallion, alongside four half-medallion with a circular and rare design. There are three borders with floral decoration. Knot density of the piece appears to be quite high but of course can be considered as average for Indo Tabriz pieces. The motifs on the piece are rendered averagely, this is due to thickness of the piece. The warp of the piece is wool just like it’s pile. Wool on wool. The colours sre slightly faded due to the sun exposure. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 9 Feet 8 Inches by 14 Feet 4 Inches Condition: In good condition without any signs of used except the sun exposure. Provenance: Purchased from South Florida in mid-80’s. Heavily decorated by traditional Tabriz patterns. 2300-2800$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
