Machine Age Lamp
25 January 2022
Description

Heavy, metal (aluminum?) lamp. 20" tall, 8" wide. Label on bottom reads "PATTYNN PRODUCTS DETROIT, MICH. MODEL 310 (?)" Metal seems a bit worn/aged (but could likely be polished/cleaned) and one of the decorative nuts is a little hard to get on but will go on. Lamp does work. What does this mean?

Hi Kim,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
1stDibs is a great website for reference but the prices are retail, whereas the values Mearto assigns are fair-market, for auction purposes; a better source for research fair-market is www.liveauctioneers.com. I found this example selling in 2014, for $2,500 (https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/32127114_walter-von-nessen-table-lamp-pattyn-products-co)
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A vintage Futurist style aluminum and bakelite table lamp
Designed by Walter Von Nessen for Pattyn Products Co., Detroit, Michigan, circa1935
20 inches tall, 8 inches diameter
CONDITION: wear appears to be commensurate with age and use
PROVENANCE: acquired with a house purchase
$2,000-3,000*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
