Hello Timothy, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Mashad Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1980 to early 2000's. The piece is centrally decorated with a very modest central medallion that appears to be only black flower stylized as a star. This motif is usually used for good fortune. The piece is a classical Mashad in terms of colour palette since the classic pieces are dominantly coloured with Khaki and Deep Red tones. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. The piece's knot density is quite high as usual to Mashad pieces and hence the motifs were rendered in high quality, clearly. The central area was knotted on a red base while the borders were decorated on a black base. The use of sharp black colour is another since of a contemporary production. The piece is in good condition without visible damages. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 8 Feet 1 Inches by 9 Feet 11 Inches Condition: The piece is in good condition without visible damages. Provenance: Purchased new from a dealer in 2007. Heavily decorated by traditional Mashad patterns. 900-1200$.
