Hello Tim, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Carpet with an enlarged and simplified design of the famous “Clark Sickle-Leaf Carpet” which was made in Kerman region of Iran in 17th century. This is a modern production of course with a modern colour palette. This piece was probably knotted between 1970-2000 period, the last quarter of the 20th century. Production of these pieces were usually made in large ateliers in Tabriz, the leaf and the flower patterns we see on this piece are actually native to Tabriz region of Iran. Rarely, copies of this pattern were knotted in Afghanistan during 1990's. Knot density of this piece appears to be averga in terms of Tabriz rugs, the motifs are therefore rendered averagely. The floral decorations on the piece are repeated along the central decoration and borders. The piece has a central medallion but this medallion is rather modest in comparison to traditional Tabriz and Kerman pieces. The pile and the foundation of the piece are both wool, this is the main reason of the thickness. Star motifs are noticable alongside the floral depictions. The wool material used in this piece appears to be brighter in comparison to traditional and earlier pieces, this might be a result of a chemical treatment to the wool and is a common technique in modern rugs. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 161 Inches by 106 Inches Condition: In good condition with some signes of use. Provenance: Unknown Decorated by an enlarged and simplified version of the traditional Tabriz patterns of the famous “Clark Sickle-Leaf Carpet” . 700-900$.
