Hello Gabe, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Kashan Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1970 to 1990. The piece is styled as a classical Kashan Rug and florally decorated. The piece is centrally decorated with a central medallion. The medallion is a classical Kashan medallion with curved edges and a vertically streched outline. There are two lanterns hanging from both sides. The piece's central area was decorated on a red base while the borders were decorated on a dark blue base. On the back of the pieces there are leather additions sewed on edges to prevent the piece from slipping on the floral. This was a contemporary edition proving the piece's age, this was also mostly done in Tabriz factories and ateliers. The piece was knotted wool on cotton. The knot density of the piece is average and the motifs were rendered clearly. On the outer middle and inner middle smaller border of the piece and at the center of the central medallion, the use of a modest Turquoise colour is enhancing the decoration significantly. This colour use is seen on Kashan pieces more often than other Persian pieces. The piece is in good condition with visible ware to the pile of the piece in various areas as well as small signes of age and use. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 8.5 Feet by 12 Feet Condition: The piece is in good condition with visible ware to the pile of the piece in various areas as well as small signes of age and use.
