Hello Peter, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, mark and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Painted Japanese Kutani Ware Bowl. This piece is dating back to the period between 1910-1930. Underneath the piece we see a Kutani mark that has been used during the mensioned period. Your piece is very rich in terms of decorational elements and drawings of these elements were executed professionally. This period can be considered as the last of the quality era. Although Japanese porcelain was also criticised during this period for paying too much attention to the Western taste the overall quality of products decreased significantly afterwards. This piece was decorated with a very bright coral colour tone to it's base and this was a common colour to see on Kutani pieces of the period. The base of the piece was decorated with a continuous Meander design which is seen more on Chinese pieces. The interior decoration of your piece has a court scene alongside an idillyc scene. Outer decoration fo the piece is mostly floral and depicts birds alongside it. In Kutani Ware birds were often depicted in floral patterns, especially in 1930's. On the lower part of the outer decoration we can adore the giltwork and the use of a very pale Turquoise i order to enhance the decoration. Precision of all motifs is in very high quality, above average. Generally in good condition without a visible fault. With a wooden base. Entirely hand painted. Dimensions: 8 Inches of Diameter Condition: Generally in good condition without a visible fault. Provenance: Owned by the customer's mother since the 1960's 150-200$.
