Hello Mark, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Sarouk Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1940 to 1969. The piece is designed and is decorated as a traditional Sarouk Rug. The piece's decoration is entirely floral. The piece is centrally decorated with a central medallion. This central medallion is very elaborate with horizontal extensions as well as vertical lanterns on both side. The piece's colour palette confirms it's Persian origin since many of Sarouk patterned reproductions were made in India during this period. The piece is symmetrical both in the vertical and in the horizontal axes. The branched complex floral motifs are native to Sarouk pieces as seen on this piece. The piece's central area was decorated on an intense red base while the borders were decorated on a bright brick tone of red. The piece can ben categoried as a semi-antique Sarouk Rug. The knot density of the piece is quite high and therefore the motifs were rendered in high quality and clarity. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. There are seven borders in total with six smaller and one main one. The piece was bought from Manoukian Brothers Inc. in 1969. The piece is in good condition without any significant problems. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 11 Feet by 7.5 Feet Condition: The piece is in good condition without any significant problems.
