What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry, and I apologize for the delay. Both of the Kris knives you submitted are very special and unique pieces. Do you have a record of the seller you acquired the knives from? This will help with the accuracy of my appraisal.

Thanks,
Bo Stuck

I am afraid I do not have any further details. They were brought back from Indonesia by my late partner in the 1970`s. He was staying in Madang with a local family. He probably was given them or bought them there. Sorry I don`t know more.

Hello,

That information is still very helpful for me! This Kris knife is in overall good condition. It is difficult to date this piece with no visible markings, but it is most likely from the 18th or 19th century. The watered steel blade is somewhat degraded, but the pattern is still visible. There is some active rust forming on the blade towards the handle. The sheath and handle are both in excellent condition. The ivory carving is stunning, and shows no significant wear or damage. Based on the condition of this piece, and completed auctions of similar items, a fair market estimate is 600-650 pounds. Please reach out with any questions.
