What does this mean?

Hi Naomi,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Noritake was one of the most popular names for dinnerware in the mid 20th Century; not only was it handsome and serviceable but it was also comparatively affordable. Increasingly few people today, however, entertain in such a formal way and the market is saturated with services of varying sizes, colors, etc. Because there is less demand than supply, fair-market / auction prices for Noritake remain low, typically bringing $4-8 PER PIECE, particularly if the service has an uneven number of both place pieces and serving pieces, such as yours.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A vintage 77-piece Noritake parcel gilt porcelain part dinner service
In the Azure pattern (white and cream ground with pink flowers and blue border), made in Japan, bearing the Morimura "M" back stamp in use from the 1930s,
comprising:
9 dinner plates (1 chipped)
12 salad plates
11 bread plates
6 soup bowls
7 soup plates/saucers (one with small chip)
12 small bowls (1 chipped)
5 tea cups with 11 saucers
1 cream pitcher
1 sugar bowl
1 serving platter (small chip)
1 tureen
CONDITION: this set appears to be in good condition; client warrants no chips or scratches. Value assumes not breaks, repairs or losses.
PROVENANCE: inherited
$300-500 for the set*
