Hello Paul, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Turkish Ushak Rug, dating back to 2010-2016 period. This piece of yours is a good example to Contemporary Ushak Rugs. Contemporary Ushak rugs are the pieces that has a commercially reinvented pattern, these were started to be made for export purposes since early 20th century. They usually employ a pattern that is like a mixture of all classical Ushak Rug which dates back to 16th century. These contemporary pattern is almost always dominated by floral motifs. Your piece is typically florally decorated by Ushak Style roses and flowers. The knot density of your piece is above average and motifs are rendered very precisely. When we observe the wool, we can celarly detect that your piece was knotted by using the first quality wool. Alongside the quality, wool used on your piece was probably treated with a washing technique before knotting. This washing technique with certain materials involved makes the wool shine and look like natural silk. Your piece has a silky shine for sure. Ivory and this tone of red is one of the most used colour palette in Contemporary High-End Ushak Rugs. It creates an elegant and gentle composition which can fit in any modern interior perfectly. Although we usually see contemporaray Ushaks without central medallion in the market, your piece's weavers decidedto add a Persian Style motif called "Herati" on the central decoration t create a medallion. This Herati patern is a rounded or straight 4 edged geometrical shape that resembles a rotated square. Usually used with a flower inside, just like in your piece's decoration. The piece appears to be in very good condition without any faults. Wool on cotton. Entirely hand knotted.
