Hello Steven, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Fragment of a Baluchi Rug. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1940 to 1960. The piece was originally a runner rug and it was reflecting a repeated pattern of "Chest" motifs such as the one on this fragment. The piece reflects floral motifs as much as the geometrically constructed traditional motifs of Baluchi people. Baluchis are a group of previously tribal people who are currently living in the today's Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The piece was cut to a shorter fragment and it's fringes were realligned during a restorative work. The piece was knotted wool on wool. The knot density of the piece is usual to Baluchi Rugs, these are classified as villager rugs and therefore are not dense as much as ity rugs such as Tabriz or Isfahan. The motifs were however rendered clearly due to simplified patterns. The piece was dyed by the classical colour palette of Baluchi Rugs in earthly and dark tones. The piece is in good condition without problems. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 43 Inches by 31 Inches Condition: The piece is in good condition without problems. Provenance: Unknown. Heavily decorated by traditional Baluchi patterns. 80-150$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
