Description

The statue is 10" high and the base 2" at it's widest point.. There is a crack that runs from the base about half way up the statue.

Provenance

This hand carved ivory statue was given to my Mother, Lois L. McCall, by her aunt C.F. Johnson. Miss Johnson purchased it from Helen Ling in Singapore in the early 50's. It was given to my Mother around 1954 or 5. I inherited it on December 23, 2009, upon the death of my Mother.

What does this mean?

Dear Robert,

You have Chinese carved statue of a monk with a flute. I cannot see specifics to give more details about the figure. Its made of elephant ivory and its made in republic period China say 1920 / 1930. Its well carved with a good expression. Be aware in selling ivory on the market if you would like to sell. Best way is using a professional auction house; they know how to deal with SITES issues and possible export to other countries.

Dear Simon

In one of our communications you said "I do not need more pictures for the process of appraisal. If you have more questions about your statue please do not hesitate to ask them." I know it's taken awhile but I have found a private party interested in buying this statue and my Ivory Chess Set. (You also appraised my Chess Set). If more detailed photos will help you give a better appraisal I can send them.

Sincerely, Robert

Dear Robert,

I do not believe that is necessary I am certain about the objects you send in. I think you can sell it around the estimates I gave you and have a descend price.

Regards,

Simon Breider
