While there are Oriental motifs on this piece, it was made for the European or English market, most likely during the late 19th/early 20th Century when Orientalism was a very popular style. Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is: A Regency style carved rosewood stepback cabinet in the Oriental style, late 19th/early 20th Century In two parts, the upper part with canted ends and molded cornice above a Greek-key frieze over four glazed cupboard doors, the outer with diamond mullions, the lower section with short drawers each with deep relief carving of an Asian landscape, over paneled cabinet doors with landscapes done in relief open to a (shelved?) cupboard interior, all on short stylized feet 72 inches high by 78 inches wide by 18 inches deep PROVENANCE: inherited from mother-in-law $1,000-1,500* *represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
