Green Glass Egg Shaped Paperweight? with impressed gold symbols

Sea green glass egg that has been impressed with gold symbols, on one side is the 2 headed eagle & crosses on the other side it looks like a large letter H. It is heavy glass but hollow, there is a hole in the base and gold around the base. There is no signature. Looks like it may have been attached to something else. I bought it as a paperweight but it is not a paperweight.

Dear Judith, Thank you for your request. The presented object is highly probably an easter egg made in glass. In Russian Orthodox countries, it is common since the 17th century to make a decorated egg as a gift to friends and the family at eastern or other holidays of the church. The Faberge eggs are a very popular and luxurious example of this religious tradition. This egg is made in green glass and is carved with the Russian Imperial eagle and the monogram N II which stands for Tsar Nicholas II. of Russia who reigned from 1894 until 1918. The monogram of the tsar is meant as a homage to the reign and not directly connected to the court itself. As a conclusion this piece was made in the Russian Empire between 1894 and 1918 as a present for Eastern. An estimation would be between 120 to 240 AUD. This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary. With best regards, Georg
