Riot, Hypo, COST - REVS 2013 spray paint, marker on acrylic sign 24" × 20" Rare original vintage by Riot, Hypo, COST - REVS Removed as-is from the streets of NYC in 2013. RIOT is a graffiti artist and illustrator born in Austria, living and working in Berlin since 11 years. Before he began exhibiting his work in galleries, Riot was active in the early Berlin graffiti movement, alongside Space Invader and Zevs. In the 2000s, Riot began a performative project called “Love Graffiti” in which he would spray paint the name of someone’s lover at an address of his or her choosing. His later works continued to employ line, text, and clean-edged geometry. In 2012, he created a large-scale installation titled Riot City, resembling a city based on Paris and New York in miniature scale with neon lighting. Cost is the tag name of a graffiti writer who, from the early 1980s to the late 2000s, blanketed New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area with his wheatpaste stickers, spray paint tags and paint-roller pieces. Cost is perhaps most widely known for his collaboration in the 1990s with another New York graffiti artist, Revs. Revs is a New York City graffiti artist whose wheat paste stickers, roller pieces, murals, sculptures, and spray-painted diary entries have earned him the reputation of an artist provocateur over the course of two decades. "Revs" is his tag name; his real name is unknown. Before adopting the tag name "Revs" he had used the tag name "Revlon;" in a 1993 New York Times interview he said he decided to shorten it to "Revs" following an epiphany he experienced after contemplating suicide on the Manhattan Bridge.
