The appraised work appears to be an oil on panel painting executed by Italian-American artist Francesco Spicuzza (1883-1962). The painting depicts a seascape with small waves lapping gently against a rocky shore. Born in Italy, Spicuzza primarily lived and worked in Wisconsin and typically created portraits, still lives and local landscapes with a particular predilection for beach scenes. He studied at the Art Students League's Summer School in Woodstock, NY and exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts the Art Institute of Chicago. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's size, composition, condition (based on photographs provided), as well as the artist's current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar examples available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
