This little piece of folk art is signed on the back, "Sudduth 44". It is in fair condition. It came with a few newspaper articles on Jimmy Lee Sudduth taped to the back of it.

The presented object appears to be a "mud painting" on plywood, which depicts a small house. It measures 11 x 7 inches and bears the signature "JM Sudduth 44" on the verso. It has been attributed to American folk artist Jimmy Lee Sudduth (1910-2007). He is known to have painted with his fingers using various combinations of of mud, sugar paste, soot or ash, motor oil, house paint and natural pigments from plants. Several of Sudduth's artworks are held in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and many pieces have shown up on the secondary market -- primarily regional auction houses based in the South -- in recent years.
