Flowered yellow beige quilted seat with wood design on top. Legs are made of wood. The cushion is faded and has a few stains. One of the wooden arms is cracked. It is in fair to good condition. I believe it is from the early to mid 1900s.

Hi Roxanne, Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. This chair would have been part of a much larger suite of seating furniture that would have included larger arm chairs (the low back of this chair was used by women, originally when they had large hoop skirts that could not easily accommodate chairs with arms), and sofas and loveseats. It's difficult to find large sets that sell for more than $1,000; individual pieces, particularly ones with breaks such as your single chair has, rarely bring more than $200 each. Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is: A Victorian style carved walnut open lady's chair In the English manner, early 20th Century Retailed / made by Hammerschmidt, Inc., Grand Rapids, Mich. The circular back with foliate carved crest over inset tapestry-upholstered back with scrolled back supports, the trapezoidal shaped seat with serpentine front rail, raised on cabriole legs. 36 inches overall height CONDITION: appears to be in good condition aside from one back support that has been broken. PROVENANCE: inherited $ 100-150* *represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
