Hello Keith, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Blown Cordonato D'oro Zebrati Murano Glass Centerpiece designed by the well known glass master Ercole Barovier. Dating back to the period between 1950-1960. This period is Ercole's late production period and known as the period he experimented gold particuls in the glass. The piece was made by Barovier & Toso company, and only designed by the renowned Italian designer Ercole Barovier. The reason this type of his works was named as "D'oro Zebrati" is that he used only two dominating colours in the composition and his company enriched the piece by the use of golden particuls. This piece is made with high precision in comparison to the other examples of this type and period in the market. Also, the octopus inspired arms of the bowl are very interesting since they are rich in decoration and plenty in number. Abstract bowl pieces from this period has less arms in numbers with little detail while your piece has particularly well made arms. The circular identity of the piece is very well executed, this period was mostly dominated by edged shapes in arms and finishes. Ercole is one of the most particular designers in Murano Glass culture ever and known as so. The piece is in good condition without any stated or visible faults. Entirely hand blown Murano Glass. Dimensions: 15 Inches Wide and 5 Inches High. Condition: The piece is in good condition without any stated or visible faults. Provenance: Purchased from an estate sale, the previous owners had a rare art and antique shop in San Fransisco. 350-400$.
