Hello Michele, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Moud Style Rug made in Central Iran. The piece dates back to the period from 1960 to 1980. The piece is characterized with simplified floral decorations as well as Herati pattern. Moud pieces are categorised as villager rugs and therefore it's motifs are rendered in a lower clarity, of course this is also due to the lower knot density of the piece. The colours used on this piece reflects a modern approach and an industrial production footprint, classical pieces are using a different colour palette with more earthly tones involved. The piece is not centrallt decorated and therefore doesn't have a central medallion. Instead of this medallion the central area is decorated with continuos patterns of Herati and floral motifs. The motifs are more geometrical and less circular in their style also due to the low knot density. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. The cenral area is decorated on a dark blue base while the borders were decorated on a red base. The piece is in good condition without any significant problem. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 2 Feet 6 Inches by 12 Feet Condition: The piece is in good condition without any significant problem. Provenance: Unknown. Heavily decorated by traditional Moud patterns. 700-900$.
