A metal fitting of the scabbard indicates that this sword was presented to Thomas Donnelly Doubleday (1816-1864) who was a bookstore owner and a Union Army officer in the American Civil War. That means the sword was assembled, personalized with the engraving on the scabbard by Tiffany & Co. Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market. This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided. A fair market estimation would be between 1.000 to 3.000 USD.
