Genus: Cyclobatis Egerton, 1844 Age: Upper Cretaceous. 100 million years Locality: Haqil - Byblos - Lebanon Geographical distribution: Lebanon Features: Cyclobatis is called "Sun - Fish" because of its quasi-circular share due to the radial arrangement of the rays of the pectoral find. These pectoral fins join at the front in a perfect circle, as seen dorsally, completely covering the pelvic fins. It has numerous teeth, which are very small with a smooth crown and with a clean slicing carina. Purchased: 2014 from Lowcountry Geologic, LLC in Charleston, SC

The genus name "Cyclobatis" means "circular ray", and this is an excellent clean example of the circular skeletal structure of this ancient creature. The genus was named by Philip Egerton in 1844. The type species is Cyclobatis oligodactylus. Two other species have been described: Cyclobatis major and Cyclobatis longicanudatus.
Only a few specimens have been found, all from the Upper Cretaceous of Lebanon.
Measurements: 13"Length x 8" Width x 3" to 4" Depth; unknown weight.
