Hello Richard, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, writings and the painting quality, I concluded that this is a Set of Japanese Hand Painted Water Colour Scrolls, dating back to the period between 1980-2010. These are contemporary pieces for interior decoration purposes, probably produced for export or souvenir purposes. All pieces are depicting a floral pattern full of flowers and different kinds of plants, mostly bamboo. The paintings are on paper but papers are also attached to a lower surface of textile, likely cotton fabric. This style of composition is characteristic to Japanese scrolls, although this set is quite new. The cotemporary, almost single coloured composition is very modest unlike earlier pieces from mid-century or early 20th century. Pieces were a added a dark green rope on top of them to be hung on a wall. I can not associate the seals with a known Japanese atelier or artsts so this was a probably little known studio or a shop. Based on your information about them being purchased in China, I believe they were bought from a mixed art studio or a souvenir shop. On the first piece on the left we see cherry blossoms, on the second piece from left a lakeside flora. On the first piece on right we can see flowers from an unknown tree, on the secnd piece from right we can see depictions of bamboo trees. The set is in good condition without any visible problems. Entirely hand painted. Dimensions: 6 Feet Tall Each Condition: The set is in good condition without any visible problems. Provenance: Purchased by the current owner's mother from China. 400-600$ per the whole set.
