What does this mean?

Dear Simon,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry

This is a Chinese painting on silk, probably upon physical inspection. The red seal is the mark of the artist or collector, but it is unidentifiable. I cannot give you an accurate date of the painting, but the vividness of the colors suggests to me that it is no older than the 19th century (late Qing).

For Chinese silk paintings of this size and type, without known artists, prices can vary. Your painting is very detailed and skillfully painted of war scenery, so I have tried to find works at a similar level as a comparison marker.

Based on sales of other paintings like this one, the Fair Market Value is between $300 and $500.

I'll do in a few days if that would not inconvenience you. Can't send anything more than that at the moment. Thanks so much and talk soon!

Of course, no problem at all!

Hello, I tried my best with hand held camera but if mobile quality is not what's needed, then I'll do another try still. Thanks and looking forward to first insights!

Simon g Sep 01, 14:54 UTC

I'm sorry if I made you wait for it, I'll try to make better shots still!

Wow, that's a lot of money if we add letter K : )
Even before that, I thought I was sitting on millions... still good news as I wanted to sell it anyway. But I have recently gotten $370 through logo design contest. I know the weight of that money today, even by 'unknown' artist standards, venerable canvas like it, for the same price? I won't be selling it for now for that price, but I would appreciate if you please tell me this: how can I position it at the online auction store with the best advantage.

Hello Simon! I would recommend you to look for specific Asian Art Auctions Houses.

Have a great day,

David

Hello David,

Do you have a search term I could use for google? Any names you can think of in that regard would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Simon
