I bought this at an estate auction in Tacoma, WA. It’s a large rug that came with a smaller matching one. Which appears unique from my research. I started cleaning the smaller one first just in case I ruined it. Then I started to think this may be over 75 years old because I doubt the swastika would be used after world war 2 (at least for western buyers). I’m familiar with the ancient history of the symbol so it doesn’t bother me personally. If I were to sell it, the more recent history (nazism) could turn off most buyers. I would like to have valuation attached to it before I try to sell it. Or I may just keep it for myself because it’s really pretty! The previous owners had the large one in a carpeted den so it appears to not have had much traffic. It may be just 20 years old because it is in such good shape!

Dear Jeanna, Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and for your patience. Based on the images, this item is: A Hand Knotted Chinese Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1940 to 1950. The piece was florally and geometrically decorated with a cherry blossom and cherry branch figure. Most pieces from this period were characterised by Chinese patterns and floral additions. The piece was knotted wool on cotton. The piece is constructed quite colorfully. The rug is very beautiful in the aesthetic sense and therefore is a valuable interior. Aside from being a lovely interior, it is also a collectible due to it's age. The piece's knot density is average and the motifs were rendered clearly. The piece appears to be in good condition without visible problems. 400-900$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
