ceramic charcoal hibachi pot.

12-1/2" tall x 18" wide. There are no makers marks. The pot has foliage design as well as 3 cranes in flight. This came out of a Japanese banking storage area located in Sasebo, Japan. It had been previously used as a charcoal burning hibachi. It was placed in the reception area of the bank and was used to warm the space. This pot is heavy. In the vicinity of 20 pounds. There are no cracks. The pot has a nice ring.

DearJames, Your pot is indeed made in Japan and I believe its ca. 50 / 70 years old. Its not an antique yet. You could argue about the function; a flower pot or a hibachi. I believe it to be a flower pot. A part of it is tranfer-printed and it looks like the garden scene is hand painted but thats hard to tell. The rim has characteristics of a printed decor. Its a big and attractive pot but lacks the age to make it valuable.
