Hello!
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal. I apologize for the little delay.
Considering the photos, this item is: A sitting Thai Buddha statue with a Swastika on the chest on a fine throne. In the head there is the Ushnisha and the pose is Abhayaprada Mudra. These Buddha statues can represent teaching, meditation, or an attempt to reach enlightenment. Abhayaprada mudra is a protective hand gesture symbolizes strength or being fearless. The word swastika originates from the Sanskrit language and is composed of two separate words: Su meaning “good,” Asti “to exist” and “ka” as a suffix. As per Sanskrit grammar, the words Su and Asti become Swasti. The literal meaning of the term swastika is “let good prevail.” The Buddha is depicted seated on a throne with multiple protective symbols crowned by a dragon. For Hindus, the swastika is a symbol of auspiciousness, prosperity and good fortune. No ceremony is considered complete without it, for it is believed to have the power to ward off misfortune and negative forces. As it is not signed, it is not possible to determine the age exactly but it looks from 20th century, and made out of bronze. PROVENANCE: Unknown.
