What does this mean?

The appraised work appears to be a mixed media collage likely on panel or paper possible executed by French artist Georges Braque (1882-1963). The piece depicts a series of noticeably forms and shapes in which some appear pseudo-representational, such as the half of a violin in the foreground, arranged in a deliberate composition. The work shares several similarities to the artist's 1913 composition titled 'Le Quotidien' currently in the collection of the Pompidou Centre in Paris. Braque was perhaps most well-known for his association with Picasso and their development of Cubism, beginning in the early 20th century. This example aligns with Synthetic Cubism, which saw the inclusion of patterns and texture, usually in the form of newspaper print, and also focused on the idea of flattening out images, in an attempt to completely expel all notions of perspective and the illusion of three-dimensional space. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's size, composition, medium and condition (based on images provided), as well as the artist's current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar examples available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.

Note: The estimate provided is conditional and based on the assumption the subject work is indeed an authentic work by the artist. We strongly recommend additional research or verification of the appraised work's authenticity.
