Antique Victorian Vanity
Victorian walnut vanity with inlays. I believe it’s late 1800’s or early 1900’s. The Vanity is 7’8” tall and 1’7” width and the top of the dresser is 8” deep (over hang). Somewhere along the line the hardware on the vanity has been replaced.
Inherited from an adopted Aunt (very close friend who we called Aunt) in 1990. She inherited it from her mother who said it was a wedding gift. The vanity has marble tops. My Aunt and her family was from South Bend, Indiana.

This is an antique, 19th century, about 1870's, 'High Victorian' era tall dressing table/chest of drawers that is done in walnut and walnut veneers. The dresser is quite tall, standing 7 feet 8 inches high. It was made for a stately home with high ceilings during that era. These are sometimes referred to as 'Lincoln' furniture as the height and Victorian era architectural form of the piece is reminiscent of the tall pieces Lincoln had brought in to the White House. There are marble tops which are ideal for placing a wash basin and pitcher vanity set. The small shelves flanking each side of the mirror are for candles and that can also reflect off the mirror to add lighting. The Victorian furniture market is currently slumped. Pieces, even the original period pieces, do not sell for what they used to sell for a few decades ago. The market was further impacted by the Recession. The estimate is for the dresser only and is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
