Hello Brita, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Qum Rug. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1940 to 1970. This is a very high quality piece decorated with floral patterns as well as various animal motifs. The piece was decorated centrally, which means it has a central medallion. The central medallion is characterized as a "Garden of Eden" and was floraly decorated with a vase at the center surrounded by bird figures. The beautiful colours of the piece creates a rarely seen harmony, the silk's way of reflecting the light is also enhancing the decoration. The piece's central area was knotted on an Ivory base, while the borders of the piece were knotted on a pale brown and a mystic pale Turquoise. On the borders, we can observe duplicated motifs of a Mythic Fallow Deer, A vase and a Fountain. Through the decoration we can see depictions of Ram Horns, Deers, Leopards and Hyenas. Vase figure was used as a motif of the prestige, to demonstrate the wealth of the owner perhaps. There are also two hanging lanterns from both sides of the central medallion, stylized with deers like a coat of arm. The piece is in high quality with a very high knot density. Qum pieces can reach up to 1000-1200 KPSI. This piece appears to be like a 900 KPSI piece but need to be measured to confirm. The piece is knotted entirely silk on silk. The piece is in good condition without ay visible faults, small signes of age and use. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 4 Feet by 6 Feet Condition: The piece is in good condition without ay visible faults, small signes of age and use. Provenance: The current owner's father bough it from an auction and gifted it to the current owner. Heavily decorated by traditional Qum patterns. 5000-7000$.
