Antique Persian Rug

This rug is over 100 years old. The dyes are vegetable dyes. The man who professionally cleaned it told me some interesting history about why only two sides of it are lined with the design. It is thinning in some areas but is amazingly well kept for being as old as it is. It's absolutely beautiful and stunning.

Hello Amber, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Heriz Rug. The piece can be categorised as an Antique and the piece dates back to the period between 1910-1930. The piece was characterized by the traditionalmotifs and layout of the Heriz Rugs. The piece was unfortunately cut on the horizontal axes hence lost two horizontal borders. This is not how the piece was knotted or designed but this is due to the elimination of a part of the piece. This is usually done when the edges are damaged beyond restoration or exposed to to much water that it would compromise the integrity of the whole piece. Instability of the colours indicate the naturally made dyes which are referred as vegatable dyes. The piece was of exposed to heavy use and sun, hence the thin pile. Knotted wool on cotton, without fringes, because the edges were sewed. The piece is geometrically constructed by use of floral motifs. The piece is also centrally decorated, the central area was knotted on a red base while the borders were knotted on a light saffron toned base. The piece appears to be in fair condition with pile loss, cut edges and colour loss to various areas. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 120 Inches by 125 Inches Condition: The piece appears to be in fair condition with pile loss, cut edges and colour loss to various areas. Provenance: Purchased from Craigslist. Heavily decorated by traditional Heriz patterns. 300-500$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
