Antique Hand Carved Wood and Leather Chair with Straw Stuffing.

The chair has no manufacturing stamps on it so I do not know where it is from or who made it. It does has some interesting cursive marks (looks like it was made with chalk?) underneath but I am unable to distinguish it or understand what it means. Specifications: - Upholstery: Leather with "carved in" floral designs. - Legs/Arms/Back: Wood with carved designs - Chair stuffing: straw. no springs. - Upholstery is held together with metal tacks. Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is: An antique Renaissance Revival style embossed leather and turned and carved oak open armchair In the Italian style, late 19th Century With rocaille carved ears over a rectangular embossed leather-upholstered back with brass tack trim over pierced back rail, part-upholstered arms with cannonball ends raised on fluted block and turned supports, the trapezoidal seat over-the-rail upholstered with embossed leather with brass tack trim, raised on fluted block and turned legs joined by an H-stretcher. Underside with indistinct chalk markings. Upholstery back with straw. 39 inches height overall; 21 1/2 inches width overall CONDITION: wear and losses to leather but otherwise appears to be in good condition PROVENANCE: acquired at an estate sale in Alamo, CA $600-900* *represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
