I inherited this doll from my grandmother who was born in 1894 in Manitoba. She thought it was from France. She is made of felt, her face is hand painted and her fingers are sewn. Her dress and hat are blue felt. Her undergarments and half slip are a fine cotton. Her shoes soles and tops are separating. Her hair is in very good condition. Her hat is in good condition but faded from sunlight. I don’t see any maker’s marks.
Dimensions
She is 24 inches tall.

Hi Wendy, Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. This has the look of a Lenci doll, with its characteristic sideways glance and somewhat naive features. This website gives good information on what marks to look for (https://hobbylark.com/collecting/how-to-identify-an-authentic-lenci-doll); if you look your doll over carefully and think it definitely IS a Lenci, please let me know and I'll amend the appraisal and revisit the valuation. Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is: An antique molded and colored felt doll Possibly by Lenci, early 20th Century With brown eyes, blonde hair, colored features, wearing a layered blue and cream dress, broad-brimmed blue hat, cream pantalettes and socks, and black shoes. 24 inches tall CONDITION: This doll is in generally good condition with some sunfading and wear from use. PROVENANCE: Inherited $75-100* *represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary. Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto. ~ Delia
