Albert Francis King. Pencil drawings on back of painting. Painting is solid, minor surface damage. 20” x 16” on canvas board. Looks like the A, in the signature may have had something rub off some of the A. You can see what looks like a not intended curved line affected the A. You can clearly see the outline of the A. I would believe the sketches on the back would be easy to recognize his work.

Hi Steven, Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. The signature on this painting, while partly eroded, matches those on other works by King. His trompe l'oeil still life oil on canvas pictures remain most coveted among collectors and can command high prices at auction; his pictures done in watercolor bring quite modest sums at auction, typically less than $500 and sometimes less than $100. The drawings on the back may/not be by him; they are a bit atypical of his portraiture being more cartoonish. Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is: Albert Francis King (American, 1854 - 1945) Still life: Vase with Flowers watercolor on artist's board/canvasboard signed lower right; verso with pencil sketches of children 20 by 16 inches CONDITION: some abrasions and losses to signature and with minor surface damage but otherwise in good condition $200-300* *represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary. Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
