What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry, and I apologize for the delay. Are there any metal identification stamps present on this piece, such as a "14k" stamp? Also, is the $3600 sticker on this piece a price that was paid in the past for it? The extra information will help me make sure I can get you the most accurate appraisal. Thank you!

Yes, I believe the sticker is how much my great grandfather bought it for. I’m not sure however. He was a collector of everything. And on the back it’s got some type of clear cover to protect the back of the brooch. I can’t see the inside very well, due to it. I can not easily remove it and I do not want to damage it.

No worries!

This brooch is likely made of 18 karat gold. Based on its styling and construction, it appears to have been made around the turn of the 20th century. It features a beautiful milled "champleve" enameling in a deep blue. This technique was popularized at this time by pieces like the Faberge eggs. The stone setting work is of very high quality, and the stones and pearls themselves are very fine. This piece shows no significant wear or damage. It is especially notable that the pearls are in such excellent condition, as they are very fragile and on the most exposed part of the brooch. This is a beautiful piece in excellent condition that exemplifies many unique and high quality motifs of turn of the century jewelry. Based on completed auctions of similar items, a fair market estimation is 4,100-4,300 dollars. Please reach out with any questions.
