The barrel is engraved with date of 1796. Was told it is 69 caliber. The miquelet lock has the top broken off of the ring bolt that holds the hammers flint. Floral engraving on all metal pieces. Some pieces are a little more modern I’ve been told it is send half XVIII century technology.

Was purchased from a family member who had it passed down generations from other family who once migrated from Europe on the mayflower

What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. This is a Spanish miquelet patilla from the late 18th century. This piece is in overall good condition. There is some shrinkage of the stock around the metal parts, but no serious cracking or deformation. The barrel has some pitting and surface corrosion present, but appears to be sound. Other than the missing top piece, the lock is in good condition. The ornamentation of the piece is still legible and crisp. Given the condition of this piece, and completed auctions of similar items, a fair market estimation is 1,000-1,100 dollars. Please reach out with any questions.
