Hello Philomena, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Turkish Contemporary Hereke Style Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 2012 to 2015. The piece has a very interestingly constructed contemporary pattern. Hereke pieces usually have a common pattern and are specific to Imperial Hereke Factory's tradition. This piece is quite different in style, therefore can not be considered an original Hereke but rather a piece in close knot density and knotting type. The colour palette of the piec eis also quite strange and not in the usual Turkish Style, the colour palette rather resemble the palettes of Indo-Paki contemporary reproductions. The piece is centrally decorated with a central medallion, this medallion is quite large and stylized as a single larger piece that covers most of the central decorative area. The piece was commissioned by Iznik Art of Aydın, a Turkish City located in Aegean Region. The knot density of the piece is quite high, therefore the motifs are rendered in a clear way. The piece was knotted silk on silk. The writing on the piece is not a signature, Turkey has been using the Latin Alphabet since 1928 and that writing is a imitation of the original "Hereke" sign on Hereke pieces. The borders are decorated on a blue base. The piece is in good condition without any visible problems. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 5 Feet by 3 Feet 3 Inches Condition: The piece is in good condition without any visible problems. Provenance: Purchased in Turkey 7 or 8 years ago. Heavily decorated by traditional Tabriz patterns. 800-1200$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
