Description

1938 Hummel 111 3/0 is one in a set of 16 I have. They are from a single owner who traveled internationally being a military family 50-70s. Hoping to authenticate one or two of them.

Provenance

They came from my mother's friend who traveled internationally as they were a military family 50-70's. Living in many oversees places around the globe. She recently moved to a senior facility and gave me these to sell for her.

The specialist needs more information

Hi Natalie,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The Goebels factory in (West) Germany has been making Hummel collectible figures since the 1930s, with different date marks that denote when the figures were made (some figures were made in two or three different sizes and some were re-issued after they were made initially).

For the great majority of Hummel figures, they do not bring much at auction, largely because of supply/demand (they were so popular among collectors in the 50s-90s that as a result, there are a vast number of them out there on the market with considerably less demand). When they are offered at auction, it is typical for them to sell for $10-25 PER FIGURE; as a result, they are most often sold in large groups.
Unless these are being made in China now, the only 'authentication' process is to accurately catalog each figure as to name (and model number when that's visible), height and the date mark used.

I can appraise the entire collection to be sold together, or I can evaluate each individual figure if separate inquiries are made for each one (we can offer bulk rates though I am not sure if even those reduced rates would make this a worthwhile endeavor for you - in other words, why pay $160 for 10 figures to be told they are worth $12-18?)

Let me know how you'd like me to proceed.
Delia
