What does this mean?

Dear Deborah,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. This is a piece of Dresden porcelain and dates from the last quarter of the 19th century. Your vase appears to be in good condition. It is marked on the underside with the Dresden crown mark. This mark refers to a liaison between the four most prominent decorators in Dresden, Germany, Karl Richard Kelm, Donath and Co, Oswald Lorenz and Adolf Hamman. In 1883 these four houses set the standard in decorating in what would later become known as Dresden style. So in other words, this is not the mark for an individual factory bit an early example of a marketing brand. Decorating Houses would not physically create a piece of porcelain but buy blanks from the factories and decorate them. At one point in time in Dresden, there were over 200 decorating housed in the city. Based on recent price realizations fair market value for your vase would be between 100 and 300 US dollars. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best Regards,
Morgan
