Description

Width: 52 inches Depth: 13 inches Height: 85 inches Bottom half is drawers and cabinets Top half is cabinets with glass doors It has been in the family since at least the 1960, possibly the late 1950s. It's black with gold trim and has eastern cultural designs.

Provenance

It's been passed on within the family since the 1960s, possibly 1950s. My parents got it from my grandparents who got it from my great grandparents. It's never been exhibited.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A George III style black and gilt japanned stepback bookcase cabinet
Made by the Union National Inc Fine Furniture, Jamestown, N.Y., first half/mid 20th Century
In two sections, the upper with broken swan's neck pediment with pierced fretwork over a dentiled molding, four glazed doors with shaped mullions, the lower section centering four outset short drawers flanked by a short drawer and cabinet door on either side, all on a box base and all with black lacquered surface and gilt Chinoiserie designs throughout.
85 inches tall, 52 inches wide, 13 inches deep
CONDITION: appears to be in very good condition with wear commensurate with age and use.
PROVENANCE: inherited
