What does this mean?

Hi Sue,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is a beautiful rug.
The Arabic script is somewhat archaic so I'd like to show photos of it to an expert in Arabic language; this might take longer than the 48-hours so I need to ask permission to a) show the photo and b) have a time extension if necessary.

Thanks to confirm,
Delia

Yes thank you.

Hi Sue,
I got an answer back overnight from the Arabic language expert I occasionally confer with. Rather than this being 'archaic', he says the Tugrah (Sultan's calligraphic signature) in the center is contrived, meant to look Ottoman without any bearing on historical fact. He sees this quite a lot on pieces meant for export to the Western Market where a fake signature would not have been detected. So, this is:
AMiddle Eastern Export metallic and wool Tugrah-style carpet
early 20th Century
60 by 60 inches
PROVENANCE: inherited
$300-500*
